The Cornerstone of Beaver County Helps Families Through ALICE Utility Grants

The Cornerstone of Beaver County (TCBC) was able to assist nine ALICE eligible families through the United Way of Beaver County's ALICE Utility mini grant program recently. The mini grant played a crucial role in helping to stabilize nine ALICE eligible households in Beaver County, through the provision of utility assistance. The types of payments made included the payment of security deposits to have services turned on, and the payment of utility arrearages, keeping utilities on during the coldest months of the year. The financial assistance provided through the mini grant helped to prevent additional stress and hardship, including potential homelessness for the respective families, which could have resulted if assistance had not been available.

These resources had a direct and positive impact for families who often find themselves just above the ALICE poverty threshold with regard to eligibility requirements for existing programs and services, while struggling to make ends meet.

"TCBC would like to extend our deepest gratitude to the United Way of Beaver County for making this funding available," said Marie Timpano, Executive Director of TCBC.
